Many people ignore the importance of warming up;  I used to be one of them until I was so close to injuring my knee during leg exercises. You must prepare your body for a workout by warming up. There are many forms of warm-up namely, running in your place or you use one of the cardio machines, breathing slowly and deeply for 5 to 10 minutes, and jumping rope. Warming up helps your body get ready for the demand that you will be placed on it during your workout, which increases the blood flow and your heart rate. Also, it warms your muscle and body temperature.

Use Proper Gear

Having the right gear or equipment can reduce the risk of injuries. You do not have to buy expensive gear to work out, you should buy the right gear that is designed for the activity that you do. The main reason that having the right gear is important is your comfort and safety during your exercise.

Gym - Gear

One of the mistakes that many of us do is using the same gear until they are worn out, and it happens a lot with shoes. You should replace your workout shoes every six months or sooner if you use them a lot. Another thing that you should do is buy weather-appropriate clothing; for example, in summer it is great to wear comfortable clothes that will give you the ability to move freely and enable your body to release heat. Whereas, in winter it’s advisable to dress in layers that can easily be removed in case the temperature of the body rises.

Cool Down

Cooling down must be the final phase of your workout routine, where it should take more time than your warm-up. The way cooling down works is that you have to decrease your pace which will allow your heart rate and your breathing to return to normal. That was for ending your workout session. I would like to talk more about cooling down between sets especially if you are doing a vigorous workout such as a Back or legs workout. It is important to wait for 2 to 3 minutes between sets which reduces your heart rate and allows your breathing to return to normal.

Drink Water

During exercise, your body loses fluids through sweat, which will result in dehydration and heat exhaustion. It is advisable to drink ½ liter of water about 15 minutes before your workout. Also, it is important to stay hydrated during your workout session, so make sure to take a quick sip every 15 or 20 minutes or between exercises.

“You need to drink fluid during exercise to replace the fluids you lose when you sweat. That way, you’ll reduce the risk of heat stress, maintain normal body function, and maintain performance levels”(betterhealth channel)
