For a person to maintain his/her fitness level and body shape, it is imperative that he/she exercises in regular basis. In order to do that, you should be careful about the way you approach your workout program because the way you workout determines whether it improves your health and body shape or cause you problems. For example, pushing yourself too hard especially at the early stages or doing things the wrong way could lead to injuring yourself and put your fitness program in hold.
One of the great gym safety tips is to take it slowly and develop at steady pace in order to learn the right form and build endurance. By doing that, you will gain more strength and skills which will enable you to increase the intensity of your workout. In this article I will list some tips that will help you enjoy a safe exercise session.
Many people ignore the importance of warming up; I used to be one of them until I was so close to injuring my knee during legs exercises. It crucial that you prepare your body for workout by warming up. There are many forms of warm-up namely, running in your place or you use one of the cardio machines, breathe slowly and deeply for 5 to 10 minutes, and jump rope. Warming up helps your body get ready for the demand that you will be placing on it during your workout, where it increases the blood flow and your heart rate. Also, it warms your muscle and body temperature.
Use Proper Gear
Having the right gear or equipment can reduce the risk of injuries. You do not have to buy expensive gears to work out, you should buy the right gear that is designed for the activity that you do. The main reason that having the right gear is important is your comfort and safety during your exercise.
One of the mistakes that many of us do is using the same gear until they worn out; and it happens a lot with shoes. You should replace your workout shoes every six months or sooner if you use them a lot. Another thing that you should do is buy weather appropriate clothing; for example, in summer it is great to wear comfortable clothes that will give you the ability to move freely and enable your body to release heat. Whereas, in winter its advisable to dress in layers which can easily be removes in case the temperature of the body rises.
Cooling down must be the final phase of your workout routine, where it should take more time than your warm up. The way cooling down works is that you have to decrease your pace which will allow your heart rate and your breathing to return to normal. That was for ending your workout session. I would like to talk more about cooling down between sets especially if you are doing a vigorous workout such as Back or legs workout. It is important to wait 2 to 3 minutes between sets which reduces your heart rate, and allows your breathing to return to normal.
During exercise, your body loses fluids through sweat, which will result in dehydration and heat exhaustion. It is advisable to drink ½ liter of water about 15 minutes prior to your workout. Also, it is important to stay hydrated during your workout session, so make sure to take a quick sip every 15 or 20 minutes or between exercises.
